Winnebago County Land and Water Resource Management Plan

On June 7th, the Land and Water Conservation Board approved an update of Winnebago County's original plan adopted in 1998.  The revised plan addresses strategies to implement minimum performance standards for agricultural and non-agricultural nonpoint sources of pollution.  It is through this update process that necessary adjustments and revisions to the goals and objectives can be made and ensure that the management plan is successful.

Rush Lake Watershed Restoration, Inc. Receives NAWCA Grant

On October 14th Ducks Unlimited received a $1,000,000 grant on behalf of Rush Lake Watershed Restoration, Inc.  The grant was presented by Lynn Scarlett, Assistant Secretary of Policy, Management, and Budget at the Department of the Interior.  The North American Wetland Conservation Act, or NAWCA, provides Federal grant funds for various large scale projects across the U.S.  The grant funds will be used to fund the Rush Lake restoration efforts.  About $465,000 will be used to construct a new dam at the outlet of Rush Lake.  The remaining portion of the grant will be used for land acquisition and other habitat restoration projects.

Lynn Scarlett, Department of the Interior, hands a $1 million check to John Coluccy, Regional Biologist for Ducks Unlimited.
